What to Expect From Working With Figtree Pictures: Our Process

Not sure what to expect from working with your wedding photographer? Here at Figtree Pictures, we’ve been shooting weddings for nearly 15 years now and have a dedicated team to guide you through the entire journey from start to finish, ensuring your experience with us is seamless and stress-free.

If you’re currently looking for a wedding photographer or simply want to learn more about our process, keep reading as we break it down for you below - from your initial enquiry right through to creating your photo album after the day.

Step 1: Say hello!

Congratulations lovers, you’re engaged! Once the initial excitement has worn off, it’s time to put the wheels in motion and start booking your dream team of wedding vendors. We recommend getting in touch as soon as possible to reserve your date - ideally, at least 12 months before your wedding.

If you’re still in the research phase, you can get a feel for our wedding photography style by browsing our recent wedding galleries to see our work on real weddings from start to finish, or Instagram to see select highlights.

Once you’ve decided we’d be a good fit for your wedding, simply get in touch via our contact page and tell us all about your day! We’ll confirm our availability on your wedding date and send you some more information about our different wedding photography and videography packages and how we can work together.

Step 2: Secure your date

Want to go ahead and book us in for your wedding day? Once you’ve chosen the package for you, let us know and we’ll send through everything you need to secure your date. Once finalised, your date will be reserved in our calendar, and we’ll collect the basic details we need to get started.

Although your wedding might still be a while away, we’re always available to answer any questions that may arise during the planning process. Whether you need local wedding vendor recommendations or want to check on timings for your day, you can email us at any time. This is also a great opportunity to book us in for an engagement session, so you can form a personal connection with your photographer and get some practice in before the big day!

Step 3: Create your photography timeline

Your wedding timeline is one of the most important elements of the day. A well-organised timeline means your wedding will run smoothly from start to finish, and also ensures we have enough time to capture all of the epic memories without feeling rushed.

Around 6-8 weeks before the big day, we’ll send you a detailed questionnaire to collect all of your specific wedding details - for example, accommodation locations, ceremony and reception timings, list of family photos and any special photo moments you’ve planned such as a confetti toss or sparkler first dance. We’ll use this information to put together your wedding photography timeline, and send this through for your approval. Once you’re happy with what we’ve put together, we’ll arrange for you to chat with your photographer to run through it all and say hi!

Step 4: The big day!

Your wedding day has arrived! From the morning prep through to the ceremony and golden hour portraits, we’ll be there to capture the significant moments as well as the beautiful in-between details. While we prioritise natural, authentic imagery, we’ll also provide clear and thoughtful direction as needed during portraits to help you feel confident and comfortable.

A little tip: ask your photographer to take a quick photo on your phone during your portraits - this way you’ll have a photo straight away!

Step 5: Enjoy your sneak peeks

We know you’re dying to see your photos! We always share some sneak peek images the week after your wedding.

Step 6: allow us time in the editing room

We'll be working busily behind the scenes to make your images amazing. Here at Figtree Pictures, we take great pride in our editing process, which has been honed over the last decade to what it is today. Yep, you read that right - a decade of tweaking to get our style just right and unique to us. It’s this editing process that truly sets the tone and elevates your photos to memories that will last a lifetime.

step 7: Your full gallery arrives

This is it, the moment you’ve been waiting for! Approximately 6-8 weeks after your wedding, we’ll send through the link to your full wedding gallery. Pour a glass of champagne and sit down together as you relive the magic of the day!

Step 8: Create a custom wedding album

We highly recommend creating a custom wedding album to showcase your most-loved photos from the day. Your wedding album will become a beautiful heirloom that gets passed down through your family for years to come.
