5 Reasons to Plan a Winter Wedding

Winter might not be the traditional “peak season” for weddings - but here on the Gold Coast and surrounds, we actually think it’s one of the best times of year to tie the knot!

As wedding photographers, we can tell you first-hand that some of our favourite weddings have taken place during the winter months.

From seriously amazing sunsets to cosy winter styling, read on for 5 compelling reasons to consider a winter wedding in this beautiful region.

1. Better Availability of Venues and Vendors

One of the biggest advantages of a winter wedding on the Gold Coast and surrounds is the increased availability of venues and vendors!

With fewer weddings taking place during this season, you have a better chance of securing your first choice of venue and vendors on your chosen date (without the limited availability that often comes in the busier spring and autumn months).

The low season also means accommodation is likely to be more affordable, making it ideal for those planning a destination wedding.

2. Seriously Amazing Sunsets

Whether your wedding is on the Gold Coast, Tweed, Byron, Scenic Rim or surrounds, the winter season offers some of the most spectacular sunsets of the year. The cooler months bring clearer skies, resulting in the prettiest sunsets in vibrant shades of pink, lilac and orange.

Whether you’re tying the knot in the hinterland or on the coast, a winter sunset will provide the dreamiest backdrop for your wedding photos - trust us!

3. No Humidity (and Less Rain!)

Unlike other parts of Australia that experience harsh winters, the Gold Coast and surrounds is lucky enough to enjoy pretty great winter weather. With average daytime temperatures ranging from 15 to 23 degrees, you and your guests can comfortably enjoy outdoor ceremonies and receptions without the uncomfortable humidity of summer.

Winter on the Gold Coast typically has less rainfall than other times of the year, reducing the risk of wet weather on your special day and making it easier to plan a beach or garden ceremony. Locations such as the Tweed Coast, Byron Bay, Brisbane and Sunshine Coast are also beautiful choices for a winter wedding.

4. Embrace Winter Style

The cooler weather in winter means you can be more creative with your wedding style and attire! If you have your heart set on a long-sleeved dress or want to accessorise with a coat or jacket, a winter wedding might be perfect for you. We’ve seen our winter brides rock everything from sequinned jackets to fur coats (which also adds a fun element to your wedding photos).

Let’s be honest - wearing a formal suit in the heart of summer can be pretty unpleasant, too! A winter wedding means the groom, groomsmen and other guests can don their best suits without feeling uncomfortable.

5. Create a Cosy Atmosphere

Finally, a winter wedding naturally lends itself to a more cosy, intimate atmosphere. You can embrace this in your wedding styling by incorporating lots of candles and moody lighting, providing blankets for guests to snuggle up with, or serving comfort food for your wedding menu.
