A wet weather forecast is probably the number one thing we hear couples stress about in the lead-up to their wedding. But we’re here to tell you that rain definitely doesn’t need to dampen your celebration!

As wedding photographers, we fully embrace a rainy day wedding. It provides an overcast background which eliminates shadows and unflattering light, it provides beautiful moody tones, and adds a touch of magic to your wedding images.

Still not convinced? Keep reading for our top tips for wet weather, and how you can embrace the elements and rock your rainy day wedding.

1.Organise a wet weather Plan B

If you’re planning an outdoor ceremony or reception, make sure you agree on a wet weather option with your venue and/or coordinator ahead of time. The last thing you want to worry about on the morning of your wedding is trying to find a backup location!

While an indoor ceremony might be your Plan B, it can be just as incredible as your Plan A. You can easily transform an indoor ceremony space by adding lighting and candles to create a warm, romantic ambience. If you’re working with a great florist, they’ll be able to use your florals and foliage to bring the outside in.

For an outdoor reception space, a clear marquee not only lets you see the stars at night, it also give you peace of mind so you don’t need to worry about any unexpected weather changes on your wedding day.

2. Supply clear umbrellas

If there’s a chance of rain on your wedding day, we’d recommend purchasing enough umbrellas for you and your wedding party. Clear umbrellas are the best option for your wedding photos to allow as much light in as possible. They also make for super cute bridal party photos!

3. Bring a change of shoes

While venturing outside to capture rainy day photos, your feet might get a little wet! We’d suggest bringing a change of shoes for after the portraits are done - or even bringing a fun option (like gumboots!) for your location shoot.

4. Make time for night photography

If possible, we’d also recommend putting some time aside during your reception to sneak out and capture some night photos. With the use of rain, we can capture some ridiculously unique and beautiful photos outside.

5. Embrace it and be brave!

Finally, don’t forget what this day is all about - the two of you, hanging out with your favourite people, having an amazing party and saying “I do”. No amount of rain can take away the reason you’re there (many believe it’s even a sign of good luck!).
